A Very Long Walk.

Sorry for the missed posts last week.  No problems here, just didn't get them out.







A statue of a girl walking her dog, located on the front lawn of Victoria School, an elementary school run by Saskatoon Public Schools and located on Broadway Avenue.  Her walk is never ending, frozen in time.

Colourful Faces From The Past.

This mural is located on the Drinkle Number 3 building, aka Regent Plaza, facing 22nd Street.  It commemorates various early founders of Saskatoon, including J.C. Drinkle, who financed the construction of the building and after whom it is named.

Bear Under Glass.

A scale model of a Russian Tupolev Tu-95 Bear strategic bomber.  It's part of a show of models by members of the Scale Modellers Association of Saskatoon currently running at the Centre at Circle and 8th.  Models on display include aircraft, military vehicles, cars and trucks, and real and fictitious spacecraft. 

Metal Canvas.

These cabinets are found in various areas of Saskatoon. They contain control equipment for traffic lights. The ones in the downtown area, on Broadway, and in a few other places have been painted by local artists with the permission of the city. This one, located on 4th Avenue, features a portrait of the late Tommy Douglas, who in 1944 became the Premier of Saskatchewan as head of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation party. The CCF thus became the first socialist party to form a government in North America.

Globe On The Green Grass.

No, Saskatoon is not the home of giant hamsters. This is an environmental themed piece called Rolling Composter, created by Regina artist Wendy Peart. It is located on the lawn of City Hall on 23rd Street. Even if a giant rodent was able to get into the metal mesh globe it wouldn't go very far since the installation is chained to the ground.
