Big Money?

When I saw this giant beer can on top of the Mexican restaurant Avacado I jokingly wondered what kind of deposit return I could get for it.  Of course given that it's made of some inflatable material, and not aluminum, the answer is of course nothing.

It has definitely been too long since I posted here, but at least I got one more in this year.

Stopped Bus.

Located on the corner of 21st Street and Spadina Crescent Saskatoon Bus Stop Refreshments is a food kiosk run out of a decommissioned double decker bus.  Generally open between the start of April and the end of October it serves such casual fair as ice cream and hot dogs.  It should be noted that this style of bus never served with Saskatoon Transit.

Coffee's Still On.

When a new Tim Horton's opened on 8th Street and Moss Avenue the obvious question was whether the nearby (only a block or two away, depending on how you define a block) Horton's at the corner of 8th Street and Acadia Drive would remain open.  It has, and now it seems it won't be closing anytime soon.  The store is under renovation, and a Horton's temporary outlet trailer is parked in front at the moment.









The Horton's will reopen at the end of March.

Waiting.

Blanketed by snow the seats in front of the 8th Street Kentucky Fried Chicken silently wait for customers.

Protection.

I spotted this sign today in a local McDonalds. Whatever its intent I'm sure the night shift workers are glad for anything that makes cops visit more often, as such visits will deter robberies.

I'm hoping to post here on a more regular schedule during 2010, but don't hold me to it. I've been wrong before.

Survivor.

This McDonalds, located on 8th and Louise Streets, was the first one in Saskatoon, opening in the early 1970s. Although there have been some changes to the interior layout exterior of the building remains largely as it was when it opened and the restaurant continues to operate. The fast food market in Saskatoon now is far different than when it opened. At the time the only competition it had was Dairy Queen and Kentucky Fried Chicken(Saskatoon being one of the first cities in Canada to have a KFC.) Burger King was years away from setting up shop here, and franchises like Arby's and Wendy's weren't even a gleam on the horizon.
