A Very Long Walk.

Sorry for the missed posts last week.  No problems here, just didn't get them out.

Colourful Faces From The Past.

drinkle art

This mural is located on the Drinkle Number 3 building, aka Regent Plaza, facing 22nd Street.  It commemorates various early founders of Saskatoon, including J.C. Drinkle, who financed the construction of the building and after whom it is named.

Chicken Feed?

seed box 1

Walking down 8th Street this morning I spotted this box sitting on a bus stop bench/garbage can/billboard across the street from Grosvenor Park Centre shopping mall.  At first I was going to ignore it but curiosity got the better of me.

And what should I find inside...

...but a bunch of what appeared to be bird seed.  I would assume someone left it there deliberately to feed the local bird population, but if that's the case I'm not convinced leaving it in a cardboard box at a bus stop will work too well.

Out Of Gas.

gas 1

Located at the corner of 8th Street and Louise Avenue, this used to be a Shell gas station, but it closed at the beginning of the year.

The pumps were removed almost immediately.  It's a reasonable guess that this gas station will never open again.

Shadow.

I'm hoping to get this blog on a regular schedule of posts on at least Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and of coure more if I capture something of immediate relevance.  To make up for missing this Wednesday's post here's a shot of my shadown taken on the Broadway Bridge this morning.  I was taking pictures and noticed my shadow looked interesting, so I snapped a quick shot.

Frankly I think it kind of looks like it's walking away, even though I obviously had to be facing towards it to take the picture.

Looking at my back posts I just realised I've been at it for a year with this.

Prang.

This morning I took a trip up to Stonegate Power Centre, aka the Stonegate big box site, on one of my questionable quests.  I arrived just after an accident occured at the intersection of Clarence Drive South and Brand Road.  A car and a Saskatoon Transit bus collided.

When I came back perhaps an hour later both vehicles had been moved from the intersection, with the car being prepared for removal on a nearby parking lot.

I was still waiting for the bus when it was driven away.

From The Corner Of My Eye.

munroe church3

Travelling regularly down 8th Street via the 2 Meadowgreen bus the steeple and red door of this church on 9th Street frequently catch my eye, so one day I decided to go take a look.

Apparently this building previously housed the Courts of Praise Foursquare Gospel Church, who have moved elsewhere.

Red Doors.

While walking down 9th Street last Fall I came across this building.

Although it's labelled as the Murano not much info turns up when you do a websearch.  This isn't its original appearance, but not being a resident of the area I have no idea what the building originally looked like.

At the time of this post there was a Kijiji listing for one of the tenants looking to sublet their unit for the Summer, but since a link like that has a limited shelf life I decided not to post it.

Coffee's Still On.

When a new Tim Horton's opened on 8th Street and Moss Avenue the obvious question was whether the nearby (only a block or two away, depending on how you define a block) Horton's at the corner of 8th Street and Acadia Drive would remain open.  It has, and now it seems it won't be closing anytime soon.  The store is under renovation, and a Horton's temporary outlet trailer is parked in front at the moment.
