Clink.

drink

Walking down 2nd Avenue on Wednesday I noticed this glass sitting on top of the parking ticket dispenser at the corner of 2nd and 25th Street.  Given that the Patricia Hotel and its bar are just across the street I assumed a patron walked out of the bar holding this and put it there when he was finished.  Frankly I find that a bit disturbing, because he might have then gotten into his vehicle and drove off, drunk.

However a quick check indicates that Albino Rhino is a brand of pale ale served at Earl's Restaurants, and there's an Earl's a couple of blocks away on 2nd Avenue.  Doesn't change my worry about drunk driving of course.

I left the glass where it was, but it didn't remain there long.  Literally a couple of minutes after I took these shots a truck pulled up to the dispenser.  I think it might have been someone from the company who runs the parking lot.  In any case when the truck pulled away the glass was gone.  Somehow I doubt the driver was going to take the glass back where it belongs, but who knows?

The Flip Side.

As a followup to my previous post featuring art on the Drinkle No. 3 building here is the opposite side of the structure.  It features an ad for the Saskatoon Star Phoenix that is hard to miss.

A similar ad is found on an apartment building on 2nd Avenue, seen here from the 23rd Street bus mall.

Shopping In The Sun.

A regular fixture of early July in Saskatoon is the 2nd Avenue Sidewalk Sale. 2nd Avenue between 23rd and 20th Streets is closed off to vehicle traffic, allowing local businesses to set up shop. This year's edition was held July 9, 10, and 11th. Rainy weather made the opening day dodgy, but the Sun came out for the 10th.

DJs and other forms of entertainment are a perenial feature, and this year the South American group above performed. I didn't catch their name unfortunately.

Mosaic

When it was announced several years ago that the former Bay department store building on 2nd Avenue would be converted into condos I had thought this might mean the disappearance of the colourful mosaic found on the building's corner at 23rd street and 2nd Avenue. Fortunately those behind the project kept the 1960s design. The Bay continues to have a presence in Saskatoon, currently occupying what had been the home of Eaton's department store in Midtown Plaza before that chain's demise.
